Day 4
Today I attended worship at Port Au Prince Fellowship and the message was just what I needed. Four of us went from GD and we were picked up by some people from Medical Teams International. It was one of the volunteers birthday today so after worship we went all went to a restaurant to celebrate. It was a nice restaurant but after seeing all the poverty the last few days and the tent city across the street icouldnt order anything. Why should I have whatever I want just because i happened to be born in a rich county? On the way home we stopped at one of the MTI members apartment. A two bedroom 1.5 bath nice apartment that he rents with another guy for$ 2000 a month. This does include all.utilities and laundry services. Apparently before the earthquake a place like this would have gone for around five hundred a month. The prices have spiked because the foreign relief workers with limitless capital came in and paid top dollar for all he decent housing. We made it back to the house and everyone cleaned up and got ready to watch the super bowl at a restaurant/bar. I stayed back and enjoyed some much needed time with God including a beautiful sunset which I watched from the roof. The power is very unreliable here in Haiti and has shut off every night I have been here. Our house is equipped with an inverter which gives us a couple of hours after the power goes out. I have been on inverter power for about 45 min and want to save some for when they get back so i'm going to kill it and hit the sack. The wireless internet works most of the time here at the house so feel free to email me anytime (cristinsenior@mac.com). I'd like the contact.
